IAN AYRES is an American poet, writer, and filmmaker originally from Huntington Beach, California. He is also the founder and editor of the international anthology series Van Gogh’s Ear: Best World Poetry & Prose (www.frenchcx.com). He wrote and performed a popular 1985 disco song, “Under a Sheet,” which was produced by Steve Algozino and appears on the now collectable Hot Tracks: Series 4, Issue 1 (known as the “Mad About Madonna” double album). The Katherine Fugate feature film CAROLINA (2004), starring Julia Stiles and Shirley MacLaine, is based on the family of Ian Ayres, with the character of "Aunt Marilyn" — played in the movie by Jennifer Coolidge — accurately based on his mother. In 1989 Ayres moved to Paris, France and, along with Eric Elléna ten years later, created the movie production company French Connection Films — for which he wrote the screenplay for the feature comedy Killing Your Parents. His latest book, Private Parts (French Connection Press, 2005), is available through Baker & Taylor, Small Press Distribution, and Amazon.com.
