Van Gogh's Ear 6: The Love Issue

Van Gogh’s Ear: Best World Poetry and Prose is an annual anthology series — appearing in April — devoted to publishing powerful poetry and prose in English/English translations by major voices and innovative new talents from around the globe. The goal of Van Gogh’s Ear is to make each volume a real page-turner that stirs people's emotions and ignites their imaginations. Experimental work is warmly embraced. Individuality extremely encouraged. The more daring, the better. "INTENSITY" is the key.

[Note: Although Van Gogh’s Ear is non-profit, because of being an Anglophone publication based in France, we are unable to get any grants or funding. Our continued existence, and continued ability to consider and publish outstanding work, depends mainly on the support of artists. Thus, for the survival of the excellent poetry, prose, and art that Van Gogh’s Ear is all about, we must ask a consideration fee of 10 US dollars or its equivalent in another currency, i.e., 12 Canadian dollars, 5 British pounds, 14 Australian dollars, or 8 euros, for submissions from non-subscribers. Just click on one of the links on the left in your currency to receive consideration, then send your submissions via cyberspace or post hardcopy directly to French Connection Press. As for checks or money orders, they're welcome only in U.S. dollars or French euros. Further details below.]

Without affiliation with specific movements or schools of poetry/prose, we seek only to publish the best work being written. We’re open to all styles. We never limit anyone in any way whatsoever. We believe that by limiting others, we’d be limiting ourselves. Therefore, we equally embrace work that shows mastery of versification alongside wild work inspired by Rimbaud’s “derangement of all the senses." We not only encourage the exploration of every possible approach to poetry and creative writing, but going beyond anything yet imagined. And we are very open to poets and writers who haven’t been published before. Being published isn’t as important as the work itself.

Submissions should be accompanied by a return address, e-mail address or fax number, and a brief bio of up to 120 words. Name and address of poet/writer should appear on all pages. Copyright automatically reverts back to the author after publication. Submit up to 6 poems or 2 prose pieces at a time. Poem length shouldn’t be more than 165 lines and prose length no more than 1,500 words. Previously published work discouraged.

No simultaneous submissions. Cover letter preferred; include SAE with IRCs. Time between acceptance and publication is 1 year. Seldom comments on rejections. Published contributors receive one free copy of the volume in which their work appears. Our annual deadline is October 31. Submissions in hard copy [e-mail, fax and disk submissions will not be considered] should be addressed only to our office in France:
