The WEGO Health Activist Awards has nominated Twitter account, #IRememberBetter, for this year’s Health Activist Award.

The WEGO Health Activist Awards was created to connect with many inspiring Health Activists who raise awareness, share information, support their communities, and much more – often without recognition. Their judging panels (Health Activists, WEGO Health team members, and industry experts) will score each of the finalists based on their use of social media, their fit for the award, and how effectively they engage their online community. WEGO Health will tally these scores and announce the winners at their annual WEGO Health Activist Awards Ceremony this coming March.

More about #IRememberBetter:

The Hilgos Foundation is an active user of Twitter to provide support and hope to dementia caregivers, to connect the Alzheimer’s community, and to raise awareness/educate people on the disease.

In 2012, the Hilgos Foundation founded #AlzChat, a weekly Twitter driven chat where Alzheimer’s carers and experts share on a new dementia caregiving topic each week. The chat was recently mentioned in a Huffington Post column: “A great resource….is called AlzChat, where experts discuss via Twitter Alzheimer’s related issues every Monday at 3 p.m. It’s a great way to learn more, network, and raise awareness for Alzheimer’s all from the comfort of a smart phone.”

The Hilgos Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports the ongoing process of engagement in the creative arts for people who have dementia such as Alzheimer’s. To raise visibility of how the creative arts helps people who have Alzheimer’s, the Hilgos Foundation co-produced an international documentary film, I Remember Better When I Paint, narrated by Olivia de Havilland. The film was inspired by the words of Hilgos who in the midst of Alzheimer’s said, “I remember better when I paint.” The documentary shows how the creative arts can help improve quality of life for Alzheimer’s patients not only through creation and performance of art and music but also through exposure to art in museums.
